If not performed by the pilot, the flight dispatcher calculates the operational flight plan by:

Routing Selection
Routing Selection Example
  • determining the most suitable routing with regard to national and international regulations, meteorological conditions, airspace capacity, passenger comfort, flight schedule and individual airline regulations
  • integrating performance data for the aircraft type on the routing selected
  • considering economical aspects such as fuel consumption, overflight dues, crew duty time
He/she passes all calculated figures on to the crew and company units and Air Traffic Control units receive the information they require.
